Softball Recap: Oak Park Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Oak Park lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Louisville, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Royals a 9-0 shutout on Friday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Claire Broberg, who gave up just seven hits to keep Louisville off the board. Broberg has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Julia Katz, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shaila Esparza, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

Oak Park moved to 10-12 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Louisville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Oak Park and Louisville could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Eagles (ranked 318th) will meet Moorpark (ranked 101st) at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Louisville will face off against Chaminade at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (587 vs. 199).
