Basketball Preview: Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes vs. Los Alamos Hilltoppers

After three games on the road, Pojoaque Valley is heading back home. They will take on the Los Alamos Hilltoppers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pojoaque Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Pojoaque Valley pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 81-56 loss at the hands of Hope Christian. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (55), Pojoaque Valley still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Pojoaque Valley saw an underclassman step up: Serafin Mendez dropped a double-double on 28 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mendez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nick Manzanares, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Los Alamos' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Taos 48-44. Los Alamos has struggled against the Tigers recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Pojoaque Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Los Alamos, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

Pojoaque Valley came up short against the Hilltoppers in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 64-60. Can Pojoaque Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
