Basketball Recap: Curlew Falls to Mary Walker in First Game of Season

Curlew unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 73-33 loss at the hands of the Mary Walker Chargers on Tuesday. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-13.

Curlew's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jake Olson, who posted 13 points and five boards, and Gabriel (Gabe) Pak, who earned seven points and six rebounds.

Mary Walker was led to victory by Jonah Howder and Darnell Chocklon. Howder almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds, while Chocklon almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine steals. The dominant performance also gave Howder a new career-high in steals (four). Lyle Norman was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Curlew has already played their next contest, a 79-32 loss against Tonasket on the 5th. As for Mary Walker, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-74 defeat against Cusick on the 5th.
