Basketball Recap: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. South Johnston Trojans
Smithfield-Selma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 58-42 bruising from the South Johnston Trojans. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 60-54 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Johnston to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cole Norris, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 15 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Sills, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds.
Smithfield-Selma's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for South Johnston, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smithfield-Selma will host Hunt at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hunt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season. As for South Johnston, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Fike at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Fike's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
