Baseball Recap: McGuffey Find Success

McGuffey won the last time they faced Avella and things went their way on Friday too. The Highlanders came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 8-5.

Brogan Meighen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for McGuffey: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 8-9-1 otherwise. Meighen was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Stout, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

McGuffey's win bumped their record up to 11-9-1. As for Avella, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-8.

Coming up, McGuffey will head out on the road to face off against Shady Side Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Highlanders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Avella, they will face off against Western Beaver on Tuesday. The Golden Beavers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
