Softball Preview: Portage Indians vs. Andrean Fighting 59ers        
        
		
            
 Portage has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will  challenge the Andrean Fighting 59ers at 4:30  p.m.  on Wednesday. Both teams come into the  game bolstered by wins in their previous  matches.
 Portage is headed into the  match fresh off scoring the most  runs they have all season. They walked away with  a   20-15  win over Michigan City  on Tuesday.
  Brooklyn Demercede was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she  pitched 3.1 innings while giving up   no  earned runs or  hits. Demercede was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring three  runs and  stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
 In other batting news,  Cora Kingrey was a standout: she went 4-for-4 with a  home run, four  RBI,  and a  double.  Addison Martinez was another key contributor,  scoring four  runs and  stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
 Meanwhile, Andrean came tearing into  Saturday's  matchup with four straight wins  (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with  a  13-2 victory.
  Oceana Reiser tossed a big game,   not allowing a single  earned run over five innings pitched.
 On the hitting side,  Shay Spillman and  Sadie Drousias did most of the damage at the plate:  Spillman  scored a  run and  stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while  Drousias  scored two  runs and  stole two bases while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of  Micah Snider, who  scored a  run and  stole two bases while going 1-for-1.
 Portage's win  ended  a  three-game drought at home  and  bumped them up to 7-12. As for Andrean, their record now sits at 18-4.
 Wednesday's   contest will be a test for both team's pitchers. Portage hasn't had any issues making contact this season,  having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Andrean struggles in that department as   they've  averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
 Portage came up short against Andrean in their previous meeting  back in April of 2023, falling  9-4. Can Portage avenge their  loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
