Recap: Putnam City West Patriots vs. Stillwater Pioneers

The Putnam City West Patriots fell victim to the Stillwater Pioneers''s stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Pioneers on the road and fell 59-0. Putnam City West has struggled against Stillwater recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Even if they lost, Putnam City West's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Stillwater's QB was sacked four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Aaron Edwards and his three sacks.

Stillwater got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chance Acord out in front who threw for 240 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Acord was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 63 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Holden Thompson, who gained 152 total yards and two touchdowns.

Putnam City West's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.0 points per game. As for Stillwater, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.

Putnam City West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Stillwater will be playing in front of their home fans against Tahlequah at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tahlequah will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Stillwater is ranked 17th).
