Baseball Recap: Sycamore Gets the Win

Sycamore posted their closest win since March 3rd on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Montgomery Central Indians 4-3. For the War Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Sycamore got a great performance from Owen McMahan as he struck out 14 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. McMahan is becoming a predictor of Sycamore's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Sycamore's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Conner Jones, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Jones has posted since back in March of 2024.

Sycamore's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Montgomery Central, they dropped their record down to 2-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Sycamore will have a chance to go back-to-back against Montgomery Central: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
