Football Recap: Don Bosco Prep Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Don Bosco Prep had won four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 2-0 to make it five. They enjoyed a cozy 38-21 victory over the Monarch Knights. Given the Ironmen's advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked second in New Jersey, while the Knights are ranked 78th in Florida) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Don Bosco Prep found their leader in sophomore Carson Schoen, who threw for 104 yards and three touchdowns. The Ironmen also got a significant boost from Dante Deluca, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 81 yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Don Bosco Prep proved: they limited Monarch to a paltry 3.3 yards per carry. The Ironmen's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.5.

As for Monarch, they now have a losing record of 1-2. They gained 95 more yards on the day, but it was Don Bosco Prep that made the best use of them.

When it comes to explaining why Monarch lost, don't look at Florentino Lopez. Despite the final result, he threw for 271 yards and one TD, and also punched in a pair of scores on the ground.

Don Bosco Prep didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 28-0 win against St. Anthony's on the 13th. As for Monarch, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 34-20 victory against Seminole on the 12th.
