The Farmington Scorpions will take on the Volcano Vista Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Farmington will be strutting in after a win while Volcano Vista will be coming in after a loss.
Farmington took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Cleveland an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Scorpions have won eight matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Alba Allen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Allen was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aaliyah Archuleta, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Farmington hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Volcano Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sandia.
Natalia Cordova spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Emily Langley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Genevieve Tapia, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
The victory snapped Farmington's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-10-1 record. As for Volcano Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Farmington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. However, it's not like Volcano Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
