Basketball Recap: Amphitheater Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Amphitheater can now relate to. They took a 55-36 bruising from the Eastmark Firebirds on Thursday. The Panthers just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Amphitheater lost, don't look at Monica Verrett. Despite the final result, she posted 14 points and seven steals. Verrett has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 20 times she's played. Ines Amparo was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Amphitheater smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Amphitheater's loss dropped their record down to 15-12. As for Eastmark, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3.

As for Eastmark, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 32-30 victory against Paradise Honors on the 1st.
