Softball Game Preview: Mayfield Trojans vs. Centennial Hawks

For the second straight game, Mayfield will face off against Centennial. The Trojans are taking a road trip to square off against the Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mayfield 2.3, Centennial 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Mayfield's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Centennial hitters got past them. The Trojans fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 11-9 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered against the Hawks since March 11, 2023.

For Centennial's part, they got a massive performance out of Kendra Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Addie Moccia, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Centennial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Centennial pushed their record up to 14-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Mayfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-2.
