Football Recap: Ashton-Franklin Center Starts off Right with Win over West Prairie/Southeastern

Ashton-Franklin Center had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against West Prairie/Southeastern by a score of 28-18 on Friday.

Chase Near was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 134 yards and one score while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 199 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 16 passes. Kyler Willstead helped out on the ground, rushing for 102 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Another reason for the win was Ashton-Franklin Center's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Lane Messer and Naim Mimini, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece. Another thorn in West Prairie/Southeastern's side was Messer, who picked up 1.5 sacks and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Coming up, Ashton-Franklin Center will challenge Biggsville West Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Prairie/Southeastern, they will take on West Carroll at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
