Softball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Millikan's Tenth in Last 13 Outings

There's no place like home for Millikan, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cabrillo Jaguars a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won seven matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Lauren Cantwell made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jocelyn Owen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chiala Villanueva, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.

Millikan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Millikan has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Cabrillo, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14.

Millikan wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 8-3 victory against Long Beach Poly on the 29th. Cabrillo has also already played their next matchup (against Estancia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
