Buena and Desert View are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Colts will be playing at home against the Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Monday, Buena came up short against Casa Grande and fell 19-14. Even though they lost, the Colts' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.4 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Hailey Larson stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Smith, who went 3-for-6 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Desert View). They blew past Nogales 22-3 on Wednesday. Considering the Jaguars have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophia Garza made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Garza was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while going 1-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leia Switzer, who went 4-for-5 with nine RBI, four runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mariah Rodriguez, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Desert View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nogales only posted an OBP of .350.
Desert View has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Buena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-18.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Buena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Desert View struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Buena couldn't quite get it done against Desert View in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Will the Colts have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
