Softball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Clay's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

Clay won the last time they faced Oak Hill and things went their way on Friday too. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Oaks. Considering the Panthers have won 13 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Laney Shepherd was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Shepherd was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 13 contests.

In other batting news, Clay got a massive performance out of Elin Shaw, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Shaw has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Penix, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Clay is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Oak Hill, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Coming up, Clay will head out to challenge Peebles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Oak Hill, they will host Alexander at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
