Basketball Game Preview: Elbert Bulldogs vs. Deer Trail Eagles

The Elbert Bulldogs will venture away from home to square off against the Deer Trail Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Deer Trail took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Elbert, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Elbert made easy work of Denver Waldorf and carried off a 49-24 win. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 43-11 by the end of the third, a deficit the Spartans cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, Deer Trail took a blow against Burlington on Thursday, falling 54-21. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Cougars are ranked 40th).

Elbert has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. Deer Trail's loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

Elbert came up short against Deer Trail in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 30-26. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Deer Trail's Megan Donovan, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Now that Elbert knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
