Softball Game Preview: Heritage Hawks vs. Oakwood Comets

Heritage is 0-5 against Oakwood since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Hawks will look to defend their home field against the Comets at 4:30 p.m. Heritage has given up an average of 17 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Heritage is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 14th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They lost 16-1 to Cumberland.

Meanwhile, Oakwood waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Trojans as they made off with a 12-2 victory.

Caydence Vermillion made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Vermillion was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Oakwood got a massive performance out of Emberlyn Schull, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave Schull a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Bradford, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Oakwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Heritage's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Oakwood, their win bumped their record up to 9-7-1.
