Baseball Recap: Mt. Pleasant Tigers vs. Loretto Mustangs
Mt. Pleasant had lost five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 8-15 to make it six. They came up short against the Loretto Mustangs, falling 6-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 on Tuesday.
As for Loretto, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.
For Loretto's part, not much got past Casen Springer, who gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Mt. Pleasant off the board. Springer also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Mustangs are undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-14 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grayson Burleson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Loretto is undefeated when Burleson posts one or more home runs, but 6-14 otherwise. Ben Lyles also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Looking ahead, Mt. Pleasant will head out on the road to square off against Hickman County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Loretto, they will host Richland at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
