Basketball Recap: Kara West's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Woodruff over Chapman

If Woodruff was feeling good fresh off their 53-20 takedown of Mountain View Prep last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Woodruff Wolverines took a 46-28 bruising from the Chapman Panthers on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-49 back in January.

Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kara West, who posted two points in addition to nine boards and four steals. West is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmine McKnight, who put up six points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Woodruff smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

Chapman got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Elliot Miller out in front who scored nine points along with six boards and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Ivey, who earned 11 points and eight rebounds.

Woodruff's loss dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Chapman, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.

Coming up, Woodruff will venture away from home to take on Union County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodruff is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season. As for Chapman, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Broome at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Broome sitting on four straight wins and Chapman on nine.
