Basketball Game Preview: Mullen Broncos vs. Arthur County Wolves

Mullen is 8-2 against Arthur County since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Mullen Broncos will square off against the Arthur County Wolves at 5:00 p.m. Mullen is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Last Saturday, Mullen beat Wallace 53-45. Given the Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Wildcats are ranked 223rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Peyton Paxton, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 15 points and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Hegland, who posted 14 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Arthur County posted their closest victory since January 5, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Hyannis, sneaking past 34-31.

Arthur County pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.3 points per game. As for Mullen, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Mullen came up short against Arthur County in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 34-29. Thankfully for Mullen, Jaedin Johns (who went 5 of 11 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals) won't be suiting up this time.
