Baseball Game Preview: Quitman Wolverines vs. Pitkin Tigers

Quitman has gone a perfect 3-0 against Pitkin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Quitman Wolverines will challenge the Pitkin Tigers at 8:00 p.m. Pitkin took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Quitman, who comes in off a win.

Quitman not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1st. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Castor. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.

Zach Smudricks looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Quitman is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 7-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hudson Pullig, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jake Potts also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Pitkin has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.27 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They came up short against Catholic, falling 12-2. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The victory got Quitman back to even at 10-10. As for Pitkin, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Quitman skirted past Pitkin 1-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will Quitman repeat their success, or does Pitkin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
