Alcoa strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their defense stepped up to hand the Heritage Mountaineers a 47-0 shutout. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tornadoes' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Mountaineers are ranked 133rd).

Alcoa was led to victory by Condis Cherry and Thomas Manu. Cherry rushed for 86 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries, while Manu threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Cherry a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Demauri Dubose got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Alcoa didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Micah Jones and Dubose. Alcoa received some extra help from Jennaris Henry, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Alcoa's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Heritage, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Alcoa is set to square off against their familiar foe Carter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Heritage will face off against rival Gibbs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
