Softball Recap: Morgan Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Morgan's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Roy Royals a 15-0 shutout. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by eight runs or more this season.

Callie Averett made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Averett was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Joesi Kelly was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Kiernee Carter also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Morgan hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in ten consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Morgan has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Roy is on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morgan will venture away from home to face off against Grantsville at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Roy, they will head out to square off against Bountiful at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Roy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Bountiful has averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
