Baseball Recap: Shepaug Valley Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

Shepaug Valley was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. They put the hurt on the Northwestern Regional Highlanders with a sharp 13-1 win. Considering the Spartans have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Peyton Thomas made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Kersten, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Granata, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Shepaug Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Shepaug Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Northwestern Regional, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-4.
