Baseball Game Preview: La Joya Community Fighting Lobos vs. Copper Canyon Aztecs

For the second straight game, La Joya Community will face off against Copper Canyon. The Fighting Lobos will square off against the Aztecs at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. La Joya Community is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.

Dominik Garcia was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and two doubles. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Efren Bolanos and Gavino Bustamante did most of the damage at the plate: Bolanos scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Bustamante scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Bolanos also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

La Joya Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Copper Canyon only managed four hits.

La Joya Community pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Copper Canyon, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 9-6-1.

Both La Joya Community and Copper Canyon just can't seem to miss. The Fighting Lobos have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Copper Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits.
