The Cranston West Falcons are taking a road trip to take on the Cumberland Clippers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
Cranston West made up a huge gap compared to their last game against East Providence, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Falcons fell just short of the Townies by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Logan Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Elan Santana was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cumberland). They put the hurt on Mt. Hope with a sharp 21-1 victory on Thursday. With that win, the Clippers brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
Cumberland also got a great performance from Marcus Gomes as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Gomes has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Cumberland let Andrew Nocera and Micah Cousineau run wild. Nocera went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Cousineau went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave Nocera a new career-high in RBI (two). Brody Enos was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Cumberland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cumberland has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Cranston West, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
Cranston West couldn't quite get it done against Cumberland when the teams last played last Tuesday as they fell 8-3. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
