River Forest and Marquette Catholic are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Ingots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blazers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
River Forest took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Whiting as they made off with a 16-3 win. The Ingots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 13 runs or more this season.
Brandon Fergerson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, River Forest got a massive performance out of Sebastian Collazo IV, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, Collazo IV posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Walter Jaime, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
River Forest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Marquette Catholic got the win against Hammond Morton on Monday by a conclusive 18-1.
River Forest pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Marquette Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
