Basketball Game Preview: Sikeston Bulldogs vs. Charleston Bluejays

The Sikeston Bulldogs just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Charleston Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sikeston knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 21 contests -- so hopefully Charleston likes a good challenge.

Sikeston is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Poplar Bluff: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Sikeston blew Poplar Bluff out of the water with an 88-52 final score. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Mules: they've now won seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Charleston fought the good fight in their overtime game against Jackson on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 75-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fighting Indians. The Bluejays have struggled against the Fighting Indians recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Sikeston will need to focus on slowing down Deshaun Henderson, one of several Charleston players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 14 points. Henderson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last eight games he's played. Treshaun Schandon was another key player, going 5 of 12 to rack up 14 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Charleston's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Sikeston, their victory bumped their record up to 18-3.

Everything came up roses for Sikeston against Charleston in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured an 89-43 win. In that contest, Sikeston amassed a halftime lead of 50-24, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
