Baseball Recap: Fortuna Takes a Loss

Fortuna had lost eight straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 3-11 to make it nine. They lost 11-1 to the Del Norte Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 on Saturday.

Fortuna saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mariqus Ludd, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Del Norte, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

On Del Norte's side, Ben Shrewsberry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Shrewsberry has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Anthony Cardenas was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with six RBI and one run. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Landon Williams was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two RBI.

Fortuna didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 10-4 defeat against Arcata on the 16th. As for Del Norte, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against McKinleyville on the 16th.
