Volleyball Recap: Clayton Yellowjackets vs. Tucumcari Rattlers
Clayton came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Tucumcari Rattlers, falling 3-0. The Yellowjackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rattlers earlier this season, when they won 3-1.
While Clayton was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-14, 25-23.
Tucumcari had a senior duo take command as Esperanza Martinez had 18 digs and Venus Gutierrez had eight digs. With that strong performance, Martinez is now averaging an impressive 10.3 digs per game. Senthia Scioli also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.
Clayton's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Tucumcari, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-11 record this season.
Clayton will head out to square off against Raton at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tucumcari does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
