The Adams Central Flying Jets will challenge the Woodlan Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Adams Central is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
Adams Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian on Friday. With that victory, the Flying Jets brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Cade Van De Weg spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Adams Central got a massive performance out of Hayden Bluhm, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, Bluhm posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April. Joey Everett was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Adams Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Woodlan unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Churubusco by a score of 5-4.
Woodlan also got a good showing from Nolan Meeks, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meeks is becoming a predictor of the Warriors' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 9-13 when he doesn't).
Adams Central pushed their record up to 13-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Woodlan, they now have a losing record of 13-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Adams Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Woodlan struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Adams Central's way against Woodlan in their previous matchup back in April, as Adams Central made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flying Jets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
