Basketball Recap: Heritage Skates Past Ponderosa with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Heritage over Ponderosa in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Heritage Eagles blew the Ponderosa Mustangs out of the water with an 82-48 final score. That 34 point margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

Heritage got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Trystan Rangel out in front who went 8-for-12 on his way to 20 points. The match was Rangel's fifth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Gilloth, who went 5-for-11 en route to 11 points along with eight blocks and five rebounds.

Heritage's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Ponderosa, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.

Heritage and Ponderosa could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Heritage will take on Regis Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 49 places (59 vs. 10). Heritage is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Similarly, Ponderosa (ranked 164th) will meet Chaparral (ranked third) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
