Basketball Recap: Staples Triumphs

It's playoff time, and Staples had no trouble coming through when it counted. They skirted past the St. Joseph Cadets 62-60. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Wreckers were down 41-26 in the second quarter.

Staples found their leader in sophomore Chloe Smith, who posted 23 points and eight boards. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Freya Harvey, who put up 11 points and five rebounds.

Staples smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matches.

Staples is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for St. Joseph and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Coming up, Staples will square off against Ridgefield at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Joseph does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
