Softball Game Preview: Maynard Tigers vs. Ayer Shirley Panthers

The Maynard Tigers will take on the Ayer Shirley Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Maynard is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Maynard's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Bromfield with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Tigers have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddy Karlon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, Elizabeth Schmidt was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Oey Donnelly was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Maynard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Ayer Shirley lost 18-8 to Narragansett Regional on Monday. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost six in a row.

Maynard pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Ayer Shirley, they now have a losing record of 3-4-1.

Everything went Maynard's way against Ayer Shirley in their previous matchup on April 2nd, as Maynard made off with a 25-5 victory. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
