Baseball Recap: Groesbeck Comes Up Short

If Groesbeck was feeling good fresh off their 17-3 takedown of Westwood last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Groesbeck Goats took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mexia Black Cats on Tuesday. The Goats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Black Cats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Groesbeck saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ali Pineda, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI. Rafe Samford also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Groesbeck's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3-1. As for Mexia, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season.

Groesbeck is taking a road trip to challenge Fairfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairfield will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Groesbeck surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mexia, they will welcome Teague at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Mexia: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Teague has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
