The Rowan County Vikings will square off against the Wolfe County Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rowan County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Five must be Rowan County's lucky number: they beat Scott with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Vikings walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Eagles. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.
Abram Norden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ben Dehart, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Richardson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wolfe County made easy work of Montgomery County on Monday and carried off a 9-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Wolfe County also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Max Whisman gave up just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Whisman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Wolfe County let Jayden Molands and Kris Evans run wild. Molands went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Evans went 3-for-4 with three runs. That's the most hits Evans has posted since back in March. Chance Fallen was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Wolfe County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montgomery County only posted a batting average of .192.
Wolfe County has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Rowan County, their win bumped their record up to 20-11.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rowan County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Wolfe County struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
