Soccer Game Preview: West Mecklenburg vs. Hopewell

West Mecklenburg hasn't had much luck against Hopewell recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. West Mecklenburg will head out on the road to square off against Hopewell at 7:00 p.m. West Mecklenburg has given up an average of 6.2 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

West Mecklenburg is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against North Mecklenburg, falling 8-0.

Meanwhile, Hopewell had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.2 goals) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Cougars a 5-0 shutout. Hopewell might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by four goals or more this season.

They hit Chambers with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Maddie Heiar (2), Abbie Pape, Mackenzie Smith, and Abigail Cosentine.

Hopewell's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 16 goals over those three games. As for West Mecklenburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

West Mecklenburg suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Hopewell in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can West Mecklenburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
