E.E. Smith and Triton are an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2021, but not for long. The E.E. Smith Golden Bulls will take on the Triton Hawks at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. E.E. Smith is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
On Tuesday, E.E. Smith didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Westover, but they still walked away with a 58-54 victory.
E.E. Smith found their leader in sophomore Tre Williams, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 22 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of E.E. Smith's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Mcduffie, who posted eight points.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Triton on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Harnett Central out of the water with a 76-44 final score. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 25 points or more this season.
E.E. Smith better keep an eye on Ro'Mello Pegues. He was instrumental in Triton's win, going 8 of 16 on his way to 21 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmad Morris, who put up eight points and 12 rebounds.
E.E. Smith is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Triton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as E.E. Smith and Triton are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. E.E. Smith hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.4 points per game. However, it's not like Triton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 66.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
E.E. Smith came up short against Triton when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 61-53. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pegues, who went 9 of 16 on his way to 26 points. Now that E.E. Smith knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
