Basketball Recap: Mission Veterans Memorial Comes Up Short

Mission Veterans Memorial lost against Nixon back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots were outmatched by the Nixon Mustangs and fell 96-33. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1338th, while the Mustangs are ranked 289th).

It was another big night for Mason Vela, who went 13 for 17 on his way to 34 points and six steals for Nixon. That's the most points Vela has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Palacios, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points and four steals.

Mission Veterans Memorial is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10. As for Nixon, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

Mission Veterans Memorial will welcome Palmview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Palmview will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Mission Veterans Memorial surely won't give up without a fight. As for Nixon, they will venture away from home to take on Martin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nixon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69.2 points per game this season.
