Baseball Recap: Five Straight Home Wins for Cocoa Beach

The Cocoa Beach Minutemen sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Wheaton Academy Warriors on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Minutemen.

Connor McGrew was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

McGrew wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jack Meckel, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Cocoa Beach lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Cocoa Beach's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Wheaton Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Looking ahead, Cocoa Beach will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Astronaut at 7:00 p.m. The Minutemen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the War Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Wheaton Academy, they will take on Satellite at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last six games the Scorpions have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
