Football Game Preview: Weaver Beavers vs. Capital Prep/Achievement First Trailblazers

The Weaver Beavers will square off against the Capital Prep/Achievement First Trailblazers at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Weaver has five straight wins, Capital Prep/Achievement First has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Weaver took a 38-point loss the last time they faced off against Ellington, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Beavers skirted past the Knights 42-39.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Weaver to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaiden Booth, who picked up 145 receiving yards and three scores, and also rushed for 30 yards and one TD. With that strong performance, Booth is now averaging an impressive 102.9 receiving yards per game. Johnathan Mitchell was another key player, gaining 189 total yards and two touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Weaver's defensive line and their five sacks. Leading the way was Daniel Matthias with two.

Meanwhile, Capital Prep/Achievement First was beaten by CREC [Computer Science and Engineering/Academy] 58-16 on Friday.

Capital Prep/Achievement First's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Weaver, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.

Weaver was taken down by Capital Prep/Achievement First 55-6 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Beavers, Hashim Jones (who rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
