Basketball Recap: Apache Junction Prospectors vs. Florence Gophers
Apache Junction was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 67-40 loss at the hands of the Florence Gophers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Prospectors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-35 back in January.
Omar Adam and Roy Nelson certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Adam posted 19 points and five rebounds, while Nelson went 6 of 13 to rack up 13 points and three steals. That was a full 47.5% of Apache Junction's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points.
It was another big night for Logan Stenson, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards for Florence. Stenson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Taufaasau, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Apache Junction's loss dropped their record down to 7-19. As for Florence, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Apache Junction wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 80-44 defeat against Valley Christian on the 4th. As for Florence, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-64 victory against ALA - West Foothills on the 1st.
