Softball Game Preview: East Davidson Golden Eagles vs. Wheatmore Warriors

The East Davidson Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Wheatmore Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (East Davidson has four straight wins, Wheatmore has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While East Davidson's victory against South Davidson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. East Davidson won by a run and slipped past South Davidson 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Golden Eagles have posted against the Wildcats since May 3, 2022.

East Davidson let Kenzi Cribb and Kaycee Lewis run wild. Cribb went 3-for-4 with two triples, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Lewis scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two triples gave Cribb a new career-high. Another player making a difference was SOPHIE HAMPTON, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

East Davidson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Wheatmore fell victim to Southwestern Randolph and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Cougars.

East Davidson now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Wheatmore, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. East Davidson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. However, it's not like Wheatmore struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

East Davidson came out on top in a nail-biter against Wheatmore when the teams last played last Monday, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for East Davidson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
