Preview: Jackson Jaguars vs. Mays Raiders
The Jackson Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Mays Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Jackson put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Villa Rica for the full four quarters, racking up a 79-16 victory at home. Given Jackson's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Villa Rica is ranked 292nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jackson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taliah Cornish, who scored 14 points. The contest was Cornish's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Kennedie Cooper was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Mays waltzed into two weeks ago's game with two straight wins but they left with three. Everything went their way against Central as Mays made off with a 68-48 victory.
Mays' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chloe Evans led the charge by scoring 23 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Evans has scored at least 25% of Mays' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Riley , who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
Jackson's victory bumped their season record to 4-0 while Villa Rica's defeat dropped theirs to 1-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Jackson and Mays are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Jackson hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 64 points per game. However, it's not like Mays struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 59.7 per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run up the score up higher Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
Everything came up roses for Jackson against Mays when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 70-34 victory. Will Jackson repeat their success, or does Mays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
