Volleyball Recap: Gate City Gets the Win

Gate City was handed a three-set loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Providence Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Devils have posted since September 21, 2024.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (104-99) Gate City actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The final score came out to 25-19, 12-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12.

Adrianna Lane paced Gate City's offense, picking up 13 kills. Lane got some help from Sophie Webb and her 31 assists. Cacey McDavid controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Providence Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Madi Hatfield, who had 19 digs and five assists, and Margo Baldridge, who had ten kills, nine digs, and three aces.

The victory got Gate City back to even at 1-1. As for Providence Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Gate City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 win against Virginia High on the 27th. As for Providence Academy, they will challenge David Crockett at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
