Football Game Preview: Wylie Pirates vs. Wylie East Raiders

Wylie is 0-4 against Wylie East since October of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Pirates will welcome the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wylie is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 49-28 margin over Lakeview Centennial on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Pirates as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Daylon Gordon produced another solid effort rushing for 238 yards and two TDs while picking up 10.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 90 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run. Another player making a difference was Jabriran B Blake, who threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes.

Another reason for the win was Wylie's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for nine sacks. It was truly a group effort as Antonio Quarells, Kaylan Wara, and Everett Powell picked up two apiece. Wara has become a key player for Wylie: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least one sack, but 2-4 otherwise. The Pirates got some further help from Travis Ramon: he picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Wylie East didn't have too much trouble with Garland on Friday as they won 17-3. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Owls: they've now won four in a row.

Wylie's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Wylie East, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.

Things could have been worse for Wylie, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 23-6 loss to Wylie East when the teams last played back in November of 2024.
