Seymour is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Torrington is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wildcats will welcome the Raiders at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Seymour is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
While Seymour's victory against Naugatuck wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats won by a run and slipped past the Greyhounds 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Greyhounds since May 14, 2018.
Skylar Barton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Julianna Raucci was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
St. Paul Catholic hit Torrington with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders came up short against the Falcons, falling 10-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Raiders in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.
Torrington also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sophia Pergola gave up six earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Lilah Boulli was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Seymour is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Torrington, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Torrington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Seymour hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. It's a different story for Torrington, though, as they've only averaged .235. Will they be able to contain Seymour's hitters?
Everything went Seymour's way against Torrington in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Seymour made off with a 14-1 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
