Softball Recap: Sequatchie County Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Sequatchie County had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Tyner Academy on Friday. The Indians put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 13-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lyla Houk made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Houk was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Jaci Smith was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Sequatchie County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .720. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Sequatchie County pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Tyner Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Sequatchie County will face off against Grundy County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Tyner Academy, they will take on Brainerd at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
