Softball Recap: Santa Rosa Has No Trouble Against Pecos

It was a proper cat-fight when Santa Rosa took on Pecos on Thursday. The Lions put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 23-7 win. Considering the Lions have won nine matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Amaya Gonzales spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Santa Rosa got a massive performance out of Angelina Silva, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Moncayo, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Santa Rosa is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.5 runs over those games. As for Pecos, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Santa Rosa will square off against rival Estancia at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Pecos is set to face off against their familiar foe Tucumcari at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
